Pittsburgh PA Lipitor Injury Claim Attorney

At Dallas W. Hartman, P.C., our experienced lawyers are currently evaluating potential lawsuits on behalf of people who were prescribed the dangerous drug Lipitor, otherwise known as atorvastatin, and are now diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Recent lawsuits have alleged that Pfizer, the maker of Lipitor, sold the drug knowing that certain patients were at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, but failed to warn physicians and their patients about the possible risks and side effects of the drug. If you or someone you care for has taken Lipitor and have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, you may be entitled to compensation due to your pain, suffering, and injuries.

Lipitor lawsuits are on the rise

Dangerous drug lawsuits, such as Lipitor lawsuits, evolve from allegations made by patients and doctors who claim that health-impeding side effects have been caused by the drug, whereby the drug’s manufacturer did not adequately inform possible patients of all potential side effects. Those who allege Pfizer is negligent of misinforming its customers argue that patients and their physicians were not adequately cautioned about the possible risks of developing Type 2 diabetes and that although Pfizer knew about the possibility of developing Type 2 diabetes from using Lipitor, they continued to market the drug as safe and effective. Patients and their doctors also argue that even after the FDA forced Pfizer to properly label bottles of Lipitor, warning people of its side effects, the warnings still did not accurately identify all possible side effects. Victims of the life-threatening side effects of Lipitor are now turning to the trusted dangerous drug attorneys at Dallas W. Hartman, P.C. for advice and counseling about what options they have and how they can be compensated for Pfizer’s negligence.

Are Lipitor lawsuits part of a class action suit?

No. While some believe that Lipitor lawsuits will eventually become a class action suit, exponentially reducing the amount victims are compensated, they are still considered to be individual proceedings. At Dallas W. Hartman, P.C., we believe that victims of Lipitor who have developed Type 2 diabetes from using it, have suffered greatly and without justifiable cause. Our dangerous drug lawyers are ready to help individuals like you fight for your rights as a consumer and as someone who has been maliciously tricked by profit-mongering drug conglomerates like Pfizer.

Are there many Lipitor lawsuits going on right now?

As of the end of October 2013, there were over 60 cases in over 20 federal courts pending around the United States. At Dallas W. Hartman, P.C., our effective Lipitor lawyers are gearing up and researching for what will be many future months of settlements and litigation with Pfizer. In order to localize judgments against Pfizer, Lipitor attorneys like those at Dallas W. Hartman, P.C. have requested a motion of consolidation to ensure consistent determinations from one judge and only one judge. If the motion to consolidate is granted, victims of Lipitor use will retain their rights to their own attorneys, individual hearings, and compensation specific to their personal case.

What does Lipitor do to cause Type 2 diabetes?

There have been numerous studies completed linking Lipitor to the development of Type 2 diabetes. While the chemical process can be difficult to understand, biology is quite simply explained.

In our bodies, all of the food we eat is broken down into sugar, or glucose, which travels throughout our bloodstream. In people without diabetes, the pancreas releases insulin in response to food to effectively reduce blood sugar levels. It also allows glucose to enter the body’s cells, providing those cells with the energy needed for normal, day-to-day bodily functions such as walking, talking, and even critically thinking. People who have Type 2 diabetes, however, either do not produce enough insulin or cannot use the insulin they do produce. As a result of this abnormality, glucose is disallowed from entering the body’s cells but instead builds up in the blood, causing extreme highs in a person’s blood sugar levels. These extremely high levels of sugar in the blood can result in life-threatening health problems, including organ damage, strokes, and heart attacks.

Studies on Lipitor Highlight Diabetes Risk for Women, Statin Users

In early 2012, the Food and Drug Administration released a statement on Lipitor and statin that you can view by clicking here. In the report, the FDA warns patients who were taking the drug that they may have an increased risk of developing high blood sugar levels and possibly Type 2 diabetes. The report also said that Pfizer would be changing its Lipitor labels to reflect the growing concerns of diabetes. In addition, it was recommended that physicians begin assessing their patients’ blood sugar levels shortly after patients have begun taking Lipitor or any other statins.

Then, in 2013, Canadian researchers discovered that people who were taking Lipitor had a 22% greater risk of developing Type 2 diabetes compared to people who took other drugs to lower their cholesterol. These findings piggybacked off of a 2011 study that showed patients who took high doses of Lipitor had an increased risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. The 2011 study tested 4000 adults who did have Type 2 diabetes, but who did have a history of strokes. Researchers found that women who took Lipitor and had a healthy body mass index (BMI) come in at having the highest possible risk for diabetes from the use of statin.

In addition to developing Type 2 diabetes, the FDA has also warned about the potential risk for liver injury, muscular damages, and even memory loss and muscle damage. However, all current suits focused on Pfizer’s Lipitor are honing in on the manufacturer’s failure to warn potential patients of risks of developing Type 2 diabetes. Regardless, if you think that while you do not have Type 2 diabetes, but are experiencing liver failure and memory loss due to the drug, then please call Dallas W. Hartman, P.C., Attorneys at Law so that we can decide together if you have the foundation for which to build a case upon.
