A workplace accident in Allegheny County caused one man to be injured and another to be stranded on a roof. When two men were working on the roof of a home on Pulawski Way in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a stairwell collapsed. The stairwell collapsing caused one of the two men to fall down about two stories. He sustained cuts and bruises as a result. The other worker was stranded on the roof. The stairwell was said to have collapsed because it was water damaged. The stranded worker was rescued by local firefighters.
Thankfully, this workplace accident in Pittsburgh did not cause any serious injuries. To help avoid workplace injuries, the workers' compensation attorneys at Dallas W. Hartman, P.C. have compiled four safety tips:
1. Be careful when driving and maintain work vehicles. Workplace automobile accidents are a top cause of workplace injuries. Be sure to properly maintain work vehicles and have them inspected each month. Also, practice safe driving to avoid car or truck accidents.
2. Prepare for and know the weather. The weather is another serious cause of workplace accidents. The rain, snow, and heat can all cause dangerous conditions so be certain to prepare for the circumstances when going to work.
3. Use PPE. Personal Protective Equipment is required on many job sites. The proper use of PPE can drastically reduce your risk of injury.
4. Taking shortcuts can lead to a dangerous workplace. Be certain to follow all steps in completing tasks. Take time to keep the workplace clean and organized. Doing this will help keep you and co-workers safe!
