Erie man killed in hit-and-run, suspect still at large

An autopsy completed on Friday afternoon by the Erie County Coroner showed that a pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle on Thursday night died from blunt-force trauma to the head and upper body. The coroner told reporters that the 51-year-old suffered from massive injuries all over his body.

The man did not die at the scene of the accident, but passed away while being treated at UPMC Hamot in Erie. Police say the man was crossing the intersection at 15th Street and Liberty Street at around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday night when he was hit. Several witnesses confirmed the man was crossing the street, but they did not get a good make on the vehicle that hit him.

One witness said that they believe the vehicle was a red or maroon sedan and likely had a good deal of damage to its front end. Local authorities are asking for help from anyone who might have any information as to the whereabouts of the driver or any passengers who may have been in the vehicle. Anyone with info can call 814-870-1120 or 814-870-1171.
