One man dead, one arrested on suspicion of DUI in Pittsburgh

One person is dead, another is arrested, and more are injured after a three vehicle accident that took place in the Duquesne Heights section of Pittsburgh on Sunday evening. The accident happened around 9 p.m. at the intersection of Route 51 and Woodruff Street.

Witnesses say they saw a car swerving in and out of lanes and a man flailing his arms just before the crash. The car crossed the center double yellow line and struck an SUV head on. The man driving the SUV was killed; three children in the SUV were taken to Children's Hospital. The children were his nieces. A third vehicle was also involved, but no one from that car was hurt.

The man driving the car is question was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The family of the injured girls and their dead uncle say they are seeking justice and that the man driving the Pontiac Bonneville that turned into oncoming traffic should severely pay.

The man who died was taking his three nieces to a family sleepover when the accident happened. The girls' conditions were not released as of Monday afternoon, but police did say that their injuries are non-life-threatening. With less than a week before Christmas, an entire family's lives were changed in an instant. If you're going to enjoy your holiday with alcohol, then please use a designated driver or have a cab driver on the ready waiting for your call. Be responsible; don't drink and drive.
