Failure to sterilize medical equipment results in lawsuit

Hospitals across the country and in states like Ohio, have strict policies with regard to the sterilization of hospital tools and equipment. Hospitals that fail to ensure tools and equipment are in proper working order and sterilized, put patients at risk of contracting diseases and developing infections.

A man recently filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against a hospital for using equipment that was contaminated with another patient's blood. According to the lawsuit, the man sought medical treatment after suffering a stroke. Upon being admitted to the hospital, a nurse attempted to test the man's blood glucose levels.

While using the medical device, the man noted the presence of what appeared to be another patient's blood on the device and sheets. The nurse, hastily took the device and sheets away and left the patient who was extremely upset over the incident.

The man recently filed a lawsuit against the hospital in which he accuses the medical institution of negligence in exposing him to another patient's blood. As a result of this negligent act, the man has suffered extreme mental anguish and fear related to the possibility of developing a blood-borne disease. He is seeking to recover compensation related to severe injury and damage which resulted from the defendant's actions.

Each year, Ohio residents are adversely impacted by hospital-borne infections and diseases. In some cases, hospitals are negligent in failing to take appropriate measures to prevent the spread of such infections and diseases. In cases where a patient suffered harm and injury as a result of a hospital's negligent action or inaction, a medical malpractice lawsuit may be an appropriate means to recovering compensation.
