Three vehicle crash in Pittsburgh area involves school van

Though the school year for students in the Pittsburgh area is beginning to wind down, in the remaining weeks the regular routine is in effect. This includes designated buses and vans transporting students to and from school. While most of the time these trips are uneventful, on some occassions crashes do occur. A school van was involved in a motor vehicle accident earlier this month on Route 119.

The incident apparently unfolded when the school van hit a car that was stalled along the side of the road. Following that initial collision, another vehicle hit the van. The crash occurred in the afternoon, presumably after school had let out for the day. While due to the timing of the incident it would seem to make sense that children were involved, it is not known if there were any student passengers on board.

Following the three car accident emergency responders were called to the scene. Several individuals were hurt seriously enough to be taken to area hospitals. The number of victims as well as the injuries they suffered is not clear. All are likely hoping that no children were involved in the incident.

At this point it is not known what caused the van to crash into the crippled vehicle. It is highly likely however that the cause will be uncovered in the course of the accident investigation that is routine after crashes like this. Whether legal action will be taken in either criminal or civil court remains to be seen.
