Heart attack leads to head-on crash in Shaler

Head-on automobile collision can be devastating no matter what the type of vehicle involved in the crash. Each day, these types of crashes occur in the Pittsburgh area for a variety of reasons, including slippery roads or distracted driving. In other cases drivers experiencing medical episodes are to blame for the collision. This was the case this past weekend in an accident that occurred on Shaler.

A 90-year-old man reportedly suffered cardiac arrest and lost control of his vehicle as he drove. This caused his car to collide with another vehicle heading toward his. Immediately following the crash the man was taken to a hospital where he was found to be dead. While he sustained blunt force trauma in the crash, the cardiac arrest was ultimately determined to be the cause of his death.

Four occupants of the other vehicle involved in the incident, three of them children, were also taken for medical treatment. Fortunately, none of the injuries they sustained are believed to be life threatening.

As is the case in most car accidents such as this one, law enforcement investigated the incident. Because of the lack of skid marks found at after the crash, investigators believe that the heart attack was in fact the cause of the incident.

In some car accidents, the severity of injuries suffered is not always readily apparent. It is possible the children and adult from the other car involved in the crash could develop more serious injuries after the fact. Whenever anyone suffers a serious injury as a result of another person's actions a personal injury lawsuit may be appropriate.
