Safe driving tips for July 4th

Across the country and in states like Ohio, July 4 is typically one of the most dangerous holidays for drivers. Congested roadways, distracted and speeding drivers and alcohol are all main contributors to increased motor vehicle accidents and fatalities. To help stay safe, drivers planning to hit the road on July 4 should follow these tips.

Stay focused: Drivers need to put away the cell phones, turn off the radio and keep their eyes on the road. With increased traffic, it's crucial that drivers remain alert and vigilant.

Pull off the road: This tip is twofold; if a driver encounters car trouble they should pull all the way over to the right shoulder of the road to avoid being hit by other motor vehicles. Also, drivers who want to stop to take in views of fireworks should pull into designated safe areas to do so.

Beware drunk drivers: While increased police patrols will be in full force on July 4, drivers still need to be wary of suspicious activity. Drivers who notice other motor vehicles engaged in dangerous practices like excessive speeding or swerving should call and report the vehicle to police.

Unfortunately, despite all best efforts, accidents are bound to still occur. Drivers injured in a car or truck accident, no matter how seemingly minor, would be wise to get a full medical examination. Often injuries sustained in motor vehicle accidents require additional medical treatment or physical therapy which may result in time off of work, lost wages and medical expenses. An experienced personal injury attorney may be able to help injured parties receive compensation to cover these costs.
