An accident on Peach Street in downtown Erie last night has injured at least two people. The two-car accident took place shortly before 8:30 p.m. Peach Street was shut down to just one lane for some time while clean-up crews cleared the scene.

First responders came to the intersection of Peach Street and Mead Avenue just minutes after the accident took place. They say they found a Jeep Cherokee tipped over on its side with the 17-year-old male driver still inside. There was also a young female in the Jeep's passenger side. Both were Life-Flighted to UPMC Hamot.

Police say the accident happened when a Lincoln Continental rear-ended the Jeep. There is no word on the condition of the driver of the Continental or whether or not alcohol was involved. First reports indicate that the Lincoln's driver was not injured. The condition of the driver of the Jeep and his female passenger are unknown at this time. Police are investigating and rounding up witnesses to find out more information.
