Man killed in Duquesne by DUI suspect

Tragic news out of Duquesne, Pennsylvania where a 41-year-old was killed in a car accident while on his way to pick up his children on Sunday evening. The North Second Street resident and father of three, two boys and a girl, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which happened around 9:40 p.m.

Police say they believe the man was hit by a speeding drunk driver as he left his apartment complex to turn onto Duquesne Boulevard. The impact caused the deceased victim's vehicle to slam directly into his own first-floor apartment.

First responders say the scene was riddled with vehicle debris and that fresh tire tracks told the story of the seconds leading up to impact. The police taped around the part of the building where the second collision occurred. Family of the victim told reporters that he was leaving for Monessen to pick up two of his sons when the other car slammed into him. That section of the road was closed until around 4 a.m. Monday morning, according to county officials.

The driver of the other vehicle was injured and taken to UPMC Mercy. He is now listed as stable. A passenger apparently fled the scene of the accident, but police were able to apprehend him upon a timely search and conduct an interview.

Reporters interviewed the victim's daughter who was visibly distraught and she expressed her deep grief, saying, "I loved him so much. I just miss my dad." A spokesperson from the Allegheny County Police Department said that the medical examiner will complete the man's autopsy on Monday and that the suspect will be facing a long list of charges, including driving under the influence and vehicular homicide.
