Driver’s failure to maintain proper lookout results in accident

All drivers who attempt to pass other motor vehicles must abide by traffic laws and do so with caution. This is especially true for those drivers who travel along Ohio's two-lane highways. A recent accident that involved two cars and one commercial truck serves as a reminder to all drivers of the importance of maintaining a proper lookout.

The multiple-vehicle accident occurred around 1 p.m. as a car driven by a 71-year-old woman slowed to make a left turn. The woman employed her signal light to indicate to those drivers following that she was planning to make a left-hand turn. Despite the fact that the driver was signaling, the driver of the car behind the woman attempted to pass in the left lane.

As the 71-year-old attempted to make a left-hand turn, her car collided with the vehicle that was attempting to pass. The collision caused the 71-year-old driver's car to travel off the highway and into the ditch. She was not injured in the accident.

The driver of the other vehicle then collided head-on with a semi truck that was filled with concrete which was traveling in the opposite direction. The impact of the collision caused the tanker truck to subsequently start on fire. Thankfully the truck driver was able to escape the vehicle prior to it becoming engulfed in flames.

Both the truck driver and the driver of the vehicle which caused the accident suffered injuries which required medical care. Ohio police continue to investigate this crash to determine what factors may have contributed to the crash, it appears, however, that the driver who attempted to pass the turning car was at fault and may therefore be held negligent.
