New option for Pittsburgh area residents with concussion

Concussions affect Pittsburgh area residents of all ages each and every day. The way in which the injury is suffered, varies but can occur under many different circumstances. Among other things these circumstances include car accidents, sports incidents and even just trip and falls. Whatever the reason for the brain injury, it is important to seek proper medical assistance to address the condition.

Now Pittsburgh area residents will be able to take advantage of a new clinic designed to address this very injury. Located in Pine, the clinic is run by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

The injury is suffered by individuals whose brains, for whatever reason, are shaken inside the skull. This action results in a chemical change. That change in turn affects the way in which the blood in the brain flows. While some suffer only minor effects from the event, others deal with more severe and prolonged effects.

Symptoms of a concussion include:

  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Memory issues
  • Anxiety
  • Irritability

Because these symptoms may be physical, cognitive or emotional, the best way in which to treat an individual varies. The new clinic aims to determine what needs to be addressed and how best to do so.

When the symptoms continue to present themselves for a long period of time, as is that case with any medical issue, it can be expensive. Because of this, in situations where the brain injury is due to negligence of another person, it is possible that the injured person will decide to file a personal injury lawsuit.
