Wide receiver fails to pay personal injury lawsuit damages

Though spring is just arriving there are undoubtedly some Pittsburgh football fans that are already thinking about the Steelers season next fall. Many of those individuals are likely excited about professional football player Plaxico Burress' plans to play for the team next year. He recently signed a one-year contract with the team. Those individuals may not be aware of the personal injury lawsuit he was recently on the receiving end of due to a car accident he was involved in which occurred in another state.

Following the auto accident a woman who was allegedly injured in the incident filed a personal injury lawsuit against the wide receiver. That lawsuit resulted in a judgment for the woman in which Burress was ordered to pay her $125,000. After unsuccessfully appealing the judgment, Burress failed to make the ordered payment to the woman.

While the extent of the woman's injuries is not clear, those who have been injured in a car accident are likely aware of how frustrating the recovery period can be. In addition to dealing with the physical recovery it is not uncommon for bills to mount during this period of time. For this reason many are in desperate need of financial damages received in a civil lawsuit such as this.

Florida, the state in which the incident and lawsuit took place, does not take the failure to make such payments lightly. Accordingly, the department of motor vehicles suspended his license. If the matter is not cleared up before the team starts practicing, he may need a ride to work.
