Ovens are an appliance used daily by many in Butler County. They are absolutely necessary in the preparation of many meals. While the heat given off by the appliance can be dangerous, when used correctly, with common sense and maybe some oven mitts, it can be used without causing any harm. Recently however, some gas ovens were recalled due to a fire hazard present even when they are used as intended.

A total of 940 ovens are included in the recall. That number is made up of three different models of BlueStar wall ovens which were manufactured in Pennsylvania. The ovens were available for purchase throughout the country, for just shy of five years, starting in January 2008. Consumers of the defective product paid somewhere between $2,250 and $3,900.

The gas ovens manufactured by BlueStar were recalled due to the fire hazard they pose. The hazard is due to one of two issues. The first is a problem with the appliance's gas connector. Another is due to the way in which the wall oven was installed. Some ovens apparently have both issues.

While some recalls are issued when it is suspected that an event that could lead to an injury could occur, this recall comes after the occurrence of an actual fire that caused damage to the kitchen in which it was installed. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. Had someone been burned in the fire it is possible that person could have decided to file a products liability lawsuit against the manufacturer and possibly the installer.
