Doctor continues to practice after error in surgery

Medical errors are some the most dangerous and devastating possible mistakes a person can make. When Ohio residents have loved ones in the hospital, we expect that their care will be as diligent and thorough as if we were doing it ourselves. In the unfortunate event that a doctor or hospital staff makes a mistake with our loved one's treatment, the severity of the situation can change instantly.

One doctor was reported on recently as having misdiagnosed one of their patients, who died after suffering from a cardiac arrest during surgery. The patient, and 81-year-old male, had been diagnosed as having low blood pressure by this doctor who then proceeded into performing surgery on the patient. The doctor, an anesthetist, had reportedly not been detailing the treatment in a record as he should have been and was not aware that the patient's oxygen needed to be reconnected for a short while.

One woman from the board who oversaw this doctor and this case stated that the physician had demonstrated "misconduct." The doctor's representative, however, disagreed, stating that the doctor had been in a situation where there had been a lapse in judgment due to the pressure of the circumstances and had acted as he saw fit. He is able to continue to practice under certain specifications, including a training program.

If you or someone in your family has suffered from an error made by a doctor's or hospital's negligence, seeking out an experienced medical malpractice lawyer in Ohio may help you to know what to do next. While not every error can be fixed, there is the potential of receiving compensation and being able to receive further treatment or help with any issues as a result of the incident, should there have been negligence to be found.
