Child awake after being hit by car in Pittsburgh

All Pittsburgh accidents involving motor vehicles have the potential to result in serious injuries. When the incident involves multiple cars or trucks, passengers are at least afforded some protection. The protective steel frame, air bags and seatbelts hold those involved in place, provide a cushion and absorb much of the impact. When individuals involved are not in vehicles however, but are pedestrians, the outcome can be particularly bad. This is due in large part to the fact that pedestrians have no protection from the much heavier vehicles.

It is safe to say that few things are as scary for a parent than learning that their child has been involved in a car accident. This is especially true when the child is involved as a pedestrian. This occurred earlier this week in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Homewood. A boy reportedly ran into an intersection where he was struck. The incident occurred where Collier Street crosses Kelly Street.

Immediately following the collision the vehicle that struck the boy, who is thought to be around 10-years-old, remained at the scene. An ambulance was called to help the boy who though conscious, said he had a headache. The extent of his injuries is not known.

Just why the boy was in the street has not been confirmed. Authorities indicated that it is possible that he ran in front of the car for some unknown reason. Whatever the reason the accident occurred it is likely that the cause will be determined in the course of an investigation. Most would agree regardless of what the investigation finds, the most important thing is that the boy makes a full recovery.
