Cordless drills recalled due to risk of burns

Anyone who has undertaken a construction project of any size knows how time consuming they can be. Once plans are made and materials purchased, the physical work must be completed. Having the right tool for the project can make a big difference in getting a job like this done.

There is no doubt about the benefits modern tools provide when someone is working on a construction project. The time savings enables people to complete these projects in a much more efficient manner. Unfortunately, these great products can also at times be unduly dangerous.

Recently a 19.2v cordless drill was voluntarily recalled. Sold under the name Harbor Freight Tools, a total of around 108,000 defective products have been sold between April 2008 and May 2012. The problem with the drill is that it can overheat potentially leading to burns. More specifically, the issue seems to involve the trigger switch used to turn the tool on and off. Thus far only one such report is known of.

Harbor Freight Tools is instructing individuals who purchased the drill to stop using it. The company is providing replacement drills to those who contact the business.

Burns can be painful. In addition, depending on the degree of the injury, the recovery can be unbelievably long. As these types of wounds heal, the risk of infection is high. This means that burn injuries often result in mounting bills and the inability to work as one heals. Most would agree that when the burns are due to negligence or a defective product, something should be done to help to compensate the injured party. Many find that this is best accomplished through a products liability lawsuit.
