Pittsburgh accident involving motorcycle sends 1 to hospital

Pittsburgh's rush hour was made even more complicated one morning last week when a motor vehicle accident occurred on West Carson Street. In addition to blocking a portion of the street, the incident also resulted in serious injuries. The traffic and injuries were due to the collision of a pickup truck and motorcycle.

The force of the impact reportedly sent the man riding the motorcycle flying. When he landed, it was actually in the bed of the pickup truck. The impact also caused two of four bolts that held the bed to the truck to come loose.

The exact cause of the motorcycle accident or who is to blame is not yet known. Accordingly, an investigation is currently underway. Among other things, the skid marks made by the motorcycle have been measured to help determine the speed at which it was travelling when the vehicles collided. This type of accident scene investigation and reconstruction is common when accidents like this one occur.

According to an officer with the Pittsburgh Police Collision Investigation Unit, it was the motorcyclist who sustained serious injuries. He reportedly suffered head injuries described as massive. He is not believed to have been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The long-term prognosis for the man on the motorcycle is not known. Head injuries are often difficult to recover from and often result in permanent damage. When someone does make a full recovery, it can take a long time. During this period of time, medical bills and related expenses can mount. This can be difficult to deal with when there is not any money coming in. For this reason, personal injury lawsuits are not uncommon. When successful, the financial damages secured can help to deal with these.
