Bus driver dies after being struck by car in Shaler parking lot

For many drivers navigating a parking lot is a stressful proposition. Depending on the particular lot and the time of the day, it can feel chaotic. Though most drivers take their time and do what they can to be mindful of their surroundings, even the slightest distraction can cause a car accident with injuries to occur.

This week a pedestrian died after she was struck by a car in a Shaler parking lot at a school bus lot. The victim, a 71-year-old woman was employed by the owner of the lot, First Student, and at the time of the morning accident had just gotten back from delivering students to school. The car that hit her was the personal car of one of her co-workers. That driver was in the process of backing-up when it happened.

After the collision, witnesses to the incident apparently attempted to assist her. Despite their attempts, the woman succumbed to her injuries and died.

The incident is under investigation by Allegheny County police. In addition to employees from the medical examiner’s office, homicide detectives were also called to the scene. It is currently unclear whether any charges will be file against the person behind the wheel of the vehicle who hit her.

It is possible that family members of the woman could file a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver of the vehicle that hit her as well as possibly her employer. These types of lawsuits can be extremely complex. For that reason, the soon one discusses the matter with an attorney, the better.
