Tow truck driver killed after he is hit by semi on Route 581

Everyday tow truck drivers throughout the state of Pennsylvania put their lives on the line to assist drivers stranded on the side of roads. While many of the stranded motorists do not give a second thought to the dangers associated with providing that assistance, those in the profession are acutely aware of the injuries they could sustain if hit by a passing vehicle. Sometimes the injuries can result in death.

Tragically, a tow truck driver from Landisburg was fatally hurt earlier this month while working on Route 581. The 23-year-old, who was employed by for HJ Towing & Recovery, was in the process of loading a vehicle onto his tow truck when it occurred. A tractor-trailer hit him as he worked, shortly after midnight.

At the time of the accident, the man who owned the disabled vehicle that was being loaded was standing nearby. He escaped injury in the incident as did the man who was behind the wheel of the semi.

According to Pennsylvania state police, the incident is currently being investigated. They are trying to determine whether negligence on the part of the driver contributed to the accident.

In fatal accidents such as this it is not uncommon for a wrongful death lawsuit to be filed. A lawsuit of this type can be difficult for family members of the deceased to deal with since as a part of a successful suit, a monetary value will be assigned to the life of the person who has died. An experienced wrongful death attorney can likely make that process a bit easier.
