Performance, Inc. Bike Pedals Recalled

Performance, Inc. is recalling around 2,900 "2011 Forte Pro Carbon" road pedals due to instances where the pedal can break or snap off while being used. To date, Performance, Inc. has received three separate reports of these pedals cracking or breaking. While the product does pose the threat of a potential falling hazard, no injuries have yet been reported.

The pedal's axle is black and made of chromium molybdenum steel with a black steel axle. The front-top of the pedal has "Carbon" printed in red. The top-middle has "EPS-R" imprinted in the body with the "R" colored red and on the top-rear of the pedal the word "Forte" is printed in white. The outer edge of the pedal has the "Forte" logos that include crossed "F's" in white. The pedal body is black and is made of lightweight carbon injected thermoplastic. The axle is a black and made of chromium molybdenum steel with a black steel axle.

The catalog number, 50-8128, is the same in all catalogs.

These pedals were exclusively sold on Performance's website and in "Performance Bicycle" retail stores-which are located in 19 states, including PA and Ohio-from February 2011 through October 2011. The average retail cost was about $100.
