Car Accident Results in Death of 20-Year-Old Pennsylvania Woman

A collision between a Ford F250  Super Duty pickup and a Jeep Cherokee Sport occurring last week on Route 187 left a 20-year-old Wyalusing woman dead and injured a child riding in her vehicle. The crash occurred Wednesday afternoon and its cause is reportedly still under investigation by local authorities.

One common cause of car accidents is driving too fast, especially if you are driving on roads with which you are not familiar. It is still too early to determine if speed or lack of familiarity with the road played a role in the crash, but according to details reported so far, the pickup truck was driven by Johhnie Holder of Odessa, Texas, who was driving northbound on Route 187 when he apparently lost control of his vehicle while taking a left turn.

Holder’s vehicle then reportedly crossed the centerline into the southbound lane of traffic. Andrea Turner, driving the Jeep Cherokee, allegedly tried to avoid to the truck by driving into the southbound berm, but the vehicles collided head-on. The Jeep ended up resting against a tree. Turner was killed in the collision.

Firefighters reportedly had to cut through the roof of the Jeep in order to remove a child strapped into a child safety seat. The child suffered minor injuries, but was transported by helicopter to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Holder, the driver of the pickup, was not injured, but had to be removed from his vehicle by firefighters.

It is still too early to determine a cause of the crash, but investigators will frequently look to factors such as speed and impaired driving when attempting to determine a cause. According to police, both vehicles were severely damaged, which may give some indication of the speed of the collision, but may make it difficult to determine if some sort of mechanical problem contributed to the crash.
