Industrial accident causes worker to lose 2 fingers

Accidents at industrial sites have the potential to result in serious injuries to the workers who are involved. Depending on the circumstances surrounding the incident, a variety of injuries can be inflicted. In the worst cases those injuries will lead to death. These incidents occur throughout the nation including the Pittsburgh area.

Earlier this month a man was injured in an industrial accident that occurred in a neighboring state. The man was reportedly in the process of cleaning equipment used at the plant when something happened and two of his fingers were severed from his hand. Immediately following the incident the man was taken to a hospital. Rescue workers who were called to the scene also took the man's fingers. The hope is that they will be able to reattach them.

It is unclear what caused the industrial accident to occur. In all industrial settings it is assumed that certain precautions are being taken to keep workers safe. Whether safety guidelines were in place and not being followed, or if they were lacking altogether, will likely be determined in the investigation that is sure to follow.

An accident such as this one will most likely cause the man to miss a fair amount of work. This is particularly true if doctors are able to reattach his fingers. While he heals it is possible that he will seek workers' compensation benefits. The benefits available to the man will depend on the severity of the injury and how long it takes him to heal.
