Young female passenger dies when car rolls on Route 166

Most passengers who get into a motor vehicle with another person probably do not consider that they could be seriously injured or even killed by the actions of that driver. Sadly this occurred earlier this month when a vehicle was involved in an apparent single car accident on Route 166.

According to state police, an 18-year-old woman died when the Jeep Grand Cherokee in which she was riding left the road and rolled after striking an embankment. She was taken to an area hospital where it was determined that she was no longer alive. The early morning incident also sent two other 18-year-olds who were occupants of the vehicle to the hospital. The seriousness of their injuries is not known though one, the male, was reportedly released.

When a passenger in a car is hurt, or in the worst cases dies, because of negligent behavior on the part of the individual behind the wheel, that injured person or the loved ones of the person who has died may decide to file civil lawsuits against the negligent driver seeking financial damages.

These cases can be very difficult. This is because often the occupants of the vehicle are all friends who care about each other and would not try to do anything that would hurt the other person. Despite these feelings, when serious injuries or death result, related expenses can make it necessary to try to obtain damages.

This accident is currently under investigation. What caused the car to leave the road will hopefully be determined as it proceeds. Should the driver be found to be at fault, it is highly likely that civil lawsuits could follow.
