Woman crashes into school bus, girl injured

This past Monday morning, a school bus transporting four Karns City Jr./Sr. High School students crashed into another vehicle in Sugarcreek, PA. The accident happened shortly before 7 a.m. along Route 268 as the bus was taking the children to school, according to PA State Police.

The bus driver, a 54-year-old woman from East Brady, PA, was travelling northbound towards the high school when the driver of another vehicle, a 26-year-old woman also from East Brady, did not yield as the bus driver went to turn from Route 4037 on to Route 268. Police issued the woman driving the car with a traffic violation for failure to yield. A policeman told reporters that the bus had the right of way and the woman simply pulled out in front of it. She was taken to UPMC Presby in Pittsburgh, but her injuries are not life-threatening.

Initially, none of the students seemed to be seriously injured, but first responders did say a few of them looked to be in a bit of shock. They were evaluated on the scene. Three of the students were released to go back to school, but one of them, an 11th grade girl, was taken to a local hospital after she complained of a sore, stiff neck. The bus driver was also "shaken up," according to eye witnesses.

The Karns City superintendant told reporters that he's just glad there weren't more students on the bus because the number of injuries could have been much worse if the accident had happened later on along the bus route.
