Truck driver killed after crashing into stopped truck along US 24

It's never advisable to pull a vehicle over on the side of a highway or freeway. When experiencing problems with a vehicle, drivers are advised to exit the highway or freeway and pull the vehicle over in a safe or designated area. In some cases, however, mechanical problems with a car or truck may necessitate such action be taken along a highway or freeway.

One man died recently after he crashed his semi truck into another truck that was parked along Ohio's U.S. Route 24. According to the police report, for unknown reasons, the 53-year-old truck driver stopped and parked his semi along the right lane and shoulder of westbound US 24.

Around 1 a.m. another semi truck traveling westbound crashed into the stopped truck. The driver of that semi truck suffered severe injuries from which he died. The 53-year-old driver of the semi truck that was stopped was outside of his vehicle at the time the fatal truck accident occurred. He suffered injuries that were deemed minor.

Police continue to investigate this tragic accident. It's currently not clear why the truck driver was pulled over on the highway or if he had his emergency lights engaged when the accident occurred. What is clear, however, is that the truck driver failed to pull his truck all the way over to the right hand shoulder of the road and his truck was partially blocking the right lane of traffic.

In this case, it's possible that the family of the truck driver who was killed may choose to take legal action against both the 53-year-old truck driver and his employer. In cases where a loved one is killed due to the apparent negligence of another driver, a wrongful death lawsuit can be an appropriate means to recovering compensation related to loss of companionship, lost wages and funeral expenses.
