Defective mask may have left firefighter with serious injuries

Products liability lawsuits may be viable in many different situations. Essentially any time a product does not work as intended inflicting injuries to someone a civil lawsuit could be successful. These types of lawsuits are often complicated which makes it imperative to work with a lawyer who has handled these types of cases in the past.

It is likely that a former Pennsylvania firefighter did just that when he filed a products liability lawsuit against the manufacturer of a safety mask he used while working. The mask is known as the Scott AV-2000 respiratory protection mask. He alleges that the mask did not seal properly as he fought a fire a couple of years ago. As a result of that failure he claimed that he was exposed to noxious chemicals and gases including carbon monoxide. The inhalation of smoke he experienced, reportedly almost killed him.

In the lawsuit filed last month, the man and his wife covered their bases. They asserted all of the possible defects by claiming the manufacturer of the mask was negligent in a variety of ways including by designing, manufacturing selling and distributing a product they alleged was defective. As a result of these defects as the man recovered the couple lost wages and incurred a pile of medical bills and related expenses. They are seeking more than $50,000 in compensatory damages.

Should the couple be successful with its lawsuit an award would likely be welcome. We will provide updates on the matter as they become available.
