Hit-and-run accident sends PennDOT worker to hospital

It's hard to say just what would cause the driver of a vehicle involved in a car accident in Pittsburgh to flee the scene. There are of course a variety of things that could lead to someone undertaking that action. One possibility is that the driver of the car is not supposed to be driving. That person could have a warrant out for his or her arrest or may not have a driver's license. In other instances it is possible that the driver is intoxicated. A driver who flees the scene could also just get scared and panic.

The reason behind a hit-and-run accident that occurred earlier this week in Liberty Tunnels is currently unknown. Rather than another vehicle, the driver of the car that fled struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian was actually a PennDOT worker who was present to assist in directing traffic that was backing up due to a single car accident that had previously occurred.

One of the pedestrian's legs was hurt in the incident. Accordingly, he was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The injury does not appear to be life threatening.

Whether the driver of the vehicle that struck the man is found, remains to be seen. If he or she is however, criminal charges will likely be pressed. In addition, it is highly likely that the driver will be held responsible via a civil personal injury lawsuit as well. This would be the case should the man injured in the crash decide to seek monetary damages.
