Obstetrician negligence results in developmental disorders

All across Ohio, proud new parents are taking home their precious new bundle of joy. New parents taking home their baby may feel excited, nervous, eager or a million other emotions. One thing they should not be experiencing is heartbreak. One doctor is facing reprimand after his obstetrician negligence that left one family feeling just that — heartbreak.

Apparently the obstetrician in question ordered that the mother-to-be deliver her baby via Caesarean section. What he failed to do it record reasons for delaying the procedure. Furthermore, the doctor in question failed to properly interpret the readouts on the fetal heart rate. Had he done so, he would have realized the baby was in distress and required immediate attention.

The culmination of this negligence was the need for aggressive resuscitation at birth. Owing to this, the baby was diagnosed with several problems: seizure disorder, profound cerebral palsy and other developmental issues.

This instance was not the first accusation filed against the doctor. In April of 1999 he was accused of a similar infraction involving negligence in the labor room. From this incident he initially had his license revoked but then was put on probation for three years. Ultimately, his probation ended earlier then scheduled.

From the negligence in the case at hand, according to the disciplinary hearing, the doctor has only been order to take an educational course on medical record-keeping in addition to a course on fetal monitoring readouts. These courses were ruled to be completed within 60 days.

It is alarming that a child has been severely injured, resulting from this doctors negligence. Medical bills for the disorders that this child is suffering could be extremely costly and put a great financial burden on this family.
