Ohio man sentenced for sexually abusing nursing home patient

When someone you love is the victim of nursing negligence or nursing home neglect, you can feel helpless and even guilty. We expect the people we place in a nursing home to be taken care of just as well as if they were home with us. That's what we pay for and that's what we're promised.

Unfortunately, however, abuse is far too common. Generally, most cases of nursing home neglect stem from staff simply not caring for patients or leaving them unattended for long periods of time. Other cases involve physical abuse where staff members beat or restrain patients, leaving them with bruises and even broken bones. But by far the worst kind of abuse is when a staff member sexually abuses a patient. It happens more than people think and the effects are devastating for victims who have come to trust those of whom provide them care.

A 74-year-old man from Andover, Ohio was sentenced to eight months in prison yesterday for inappropriately fondling a female patient of Kinsman House, a Trumbull County treatment facility for people who are developmentally disabled. The man admitted his crimes and pled guilty to gross sexual imposition back in July of 2013. The Trumbull County Common Pleas Court judge is also forcing the man to register as a convicted sex offender and submit his address to local and state police every year for the next fifteen years once he is through serving his time is jail.

Nursing home neglect and abuse are not crimes to be taken lightly or looked over.
