Man injured in two-vehicle crash near Youngstown

Today, in Youngstown's West Side, one person was injured in a two-vehicle accident. The accident took place when a minivan and a red Jeep Patriot collided into one another shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning. The crash happened at the intersection of Route 62/Canfield Road and South Schenley Avenue about a half block from St. Christine's Pre-School.

Witnesses at the scene of the accident told police that an elderly man was driving east on Canfield Road toward Youngstown in a Jeep Patriot when he ran a red light and smashed into the minivan.

In the minivan were a woman and three children who did not appear to be injured initially, but police have not reported their official conditions as of yet. Ambulances were on the scene to take the man to St. Elizabeth's Health Center in Youngstown and an update on his condition has not yet been given either.

As the holidays approach us, please be careful when you're out and about on our roadways. As of now, no serious injuries have been reported on in relation to this particular accident, but many others are not so lucky. Especially in the winter months when conditions may be poor and the days are shorter, it is imperative that we follow all rules and regulations of the road. Whether it is a stop sign, a red light, or the speed limit, taking the time to observe the law and understand what is going on around you can save your life, the lives of your family, and the lives of others with whom you share the road.
