Karen’s Story

While caring for her ill husband, Karen Rohan endured cancer surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. After Karen had multiple surgeries and suffered from every possible complication, Karen’s husband – who had been a dialysis patient for ten years- was diagnosed with untreatable Leukemia. Karen’s cancer returned while caring for her husband and she had to undergo more chemo and radiation. The day before her husband died, doctors found that Karen had a brain tumor. Three weeks after burying her husband, Karen underwent a biopsy of her brain tumor. The doctor, while performing the biopsy, paralyzed Karen on her right side. A few days later, he told her it was an inoperable brain tumor and that radiation was her only chance. Karen underwent the radiation treatment and suffered severe burns to her head, ears, neck and upper body. The radiation treatment also resulted in burns to the brain causing severe headaches. While suffering all of these afflictions and personal tragedy, Karen never complained.

Karen is finished with her radiation treatment and her burns are mostly healed. She is still paralyzed from the biopsy and confined to a wheelchair. She is however, still smiling.

Karen has helped so many people and her children have been god sends- it is our turn and our PRIVILEGE to help.
